What Is Meibomian Gland Dysfunction?

Meibomian glands along the eyelids produce oils that help prevent tears from evaporating too quickly. When these glands become blocked or don't function properly—a condition known as meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD)—the tear film can become unstable, leading to burning, irritation, fluctuating vision, and other dry eye symptoms.

Because MGD is a common cause of evaporative dry eye, identifying and treating gland dysfunction can be an important part of long-term dry eye management.

IPL & Radiofrequency Treatment for Dry Eye

Advanced Dry Eye Therapy with Envision by InMode

Envision is the new in-office non-surgical platform that treats the underlying causes of dry eye rather than simply masking symptoms. With 2 precision treatment settings:

Lumecca-I Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

Lumecca-I uses intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy around the eyes to help address inflammation associated with certain types of dry eye and meibomian gland dysfunction. IPL may be recommended as part of a personalized treatment plan based on the underlying cause of your symptoms.

Forma-I Radiofrequency (RF)

Forma-I uses controlled radiofrequency energy around the eyelids to gently heat the tissue and support healthy meibomian gland function. Treatment may help improve the quality of the oils that make up an important part of the tear film.
